BREAST AUGMENTATION also called breast enhancement surgery, is the number one most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the US. It is used to enhance a patient’s breast size and shape. Breast augmentation surgery can also improve breast symmetry, enhance breast direction, and restore breast volume due to aging, nursing, or general aging. Many patients remark they have an improved self confidence after having their shape improved board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Adham. There are a number of considerations that you will want to discuss, such as:
• goal size
• overall shape
• type of implant
• incision placement

BREAST LIFT, also called Mastopexy, is an operation designed to lift and contour breasts that have abnormal shape. Most breast lifts are performed to correct drooping due to nursing or age.  A breast lift can restore the direction of the nipple and give the breasts more upward shape. A breast lift can be performed with or without an implant. By adding an implant, we can restore volume and provide an uplifted full shape. When considering a breast lift, the condition of the skin is more important than the age of the patient, and is often a determining factor for women post menopause. All of these considerations are evaluated during your consultation

BREAST REDUCTION reduces the amount of breast tissue when it has grown beyond normal. Many women want to reduce the size of their breast because of embarrassment, discomfort, and postural problems. The standard breast reduction procedure involves reducing the amount of excess breast tissue and skin and repositioning the nipple and breast tissue to a higher, “perkier” position. Throughout the repositioning, the nipple remains attached to the underlying tissues so it can retain its natural blood supply and sensation. In some cases, insurance may cover a breast reduction when it is found that the large breast size causes other health issues.

BREAST RECONSTRUCTION is performed after a mastectomy, or breast removel. A mastectomy may have been performed for breast cancer, or for another other reason (including elective breast removal). Generally speaking, breast reconstruction is performed either immediately following a mastectomy, or after the mastectomy has healed. Breast reconstruction takes place at the time of the mastectomy. In most cases, surgeons perform skin sparing during mastectomy, a technique that preserves the skin of the breast, and resect only the underlying tumor and affected breast tissue. Often, the nipple is resected because the ducts from which the cancer cells originate exit at the nipple. In this type of breast reconstruction, the volume of the breast, as well as a small skin patch must be restored.

In cases of high likelihood for radiation after mastectomy, reconstruction is usually performed at a later date. The delay is due to the fact that the flap, or tissue used for reconstruction, can adversely and unpredictably be affected during radiation. In this type of reconstruction, entire breast skin and volume are restored. You’ll want to have your mastectomy surgeon work directly with Dr Adham to formulate an overall treatment plan so that they can each plan and predict the needs of the other surgeon.
